Donglingtai Fm
Type Locality and Naming
The name of the Donglingtai Formation originated from Chen Kai and Xiong Yongxian (1935). Both the type locality and key section is in Dongling of the Mentougou District, Beijing.
Lithology and Thickness
The Donglingtai Formation is a group of volcanic-sedimentary deposits. It is mostly composed of brownish gray, grayish black volcanic clastic rocks and lava. The formation can be divided into 4 members in ascending order. Member 1 is dominated by basaltic andesite, andesite intercalated with rhyolite tuff; Member 2 consists of conglomerate, sandstone, tuffaceous sandstone with intercalations of rhyolite tuff; Member 3 is rhyolite, interbedded by rhyolite tuff and tuff; the member 4 of rhyolite, andesite interbedded with tuff. The formation is about 5000 m in thickness.
Relationships and Distribution
Lower contact
The Donglingtai Formation is unconformably overlying the Tuchengzi Fm.
Upper contact
The contact with the Donglanggou Fm is obscure.
Regional extent
It is distributed in the Mentougou and Huairou districts, Beijing.
